Owned by the Cuvelier family, Château Leoville Poyferre extends across 60ha of land composed of sandy-clay subsoil with terraces of Mindel gravel. The average age of the vines being 37 years old, this wine, a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, was aged for 18 - 20 months in French oak barrels, traditionally racked, fining with egg white.

Creamy damson, blackberry and smoked vanilla pod expand through the mid palate. I loved it En Primeur but it has improved since and this is an upscore from the 96 points I gave it at my last tasting.
